In 2009 the Village formally adopted and completed its Comprehensive Plan. The document was completed to meet statutory requirements for land use decisions, and it was also intended to be a “working document” to guide zoning and development decisions including budgets, new initiatives and capital programming.
The plan served the Village well and of the 70 recommendations in the document, 51 have been achieved, are in progress, or ongoing. Because of this success and the changing development landscape in Brown Deer, Village leaders felt it was time to update and identify new goals for future land use.
The Village has hired national consultant AECOM to guide the plan update process over the next few months. One of the first steps in this process is a short public survey available here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BDPublicSurvey. The survey will be active starting Monday, August 15 and be active through September 30. Residents, business owners, and other community stakeholders are encouraged to take the survey to provide their opinions on development priorities in the Village. As data and feedback is gathered additional public involvement opportunities (both in person and online) will be offered before an update is adopted. Stay tuned to the Village website and social media channels for additional opportunities to help guide the Brown Deer plan.
