2022 Property Tax Bills to be Reduced

Dear Brown Deer Property Owner,

The Village is informing residents that they will be receiving new 2022 property tax bills that will contain a reduction to their original tax bill statements. If you have already paid your tax bill in full, you will be receiving a check to refund you the difference in your overpayment. If you have already paid an installment, the additional amount you paid thus far will be applied to the next installment(s). If you have yet to pay your tax bill, disregard the original bill received in December and use the amount in the revised tax bill.

The Village is in its first year using a new property tax software (LandNav) that was selected and assigned to us by Milwaukee County. This property tax software generates all the property tax bills based on the approved tax levy information and the assessed valuations downloaded into the software. Our assessor provides us with the file to download into the software. Not all the manufacturing property valuations were updated in that file. As a result, this shifted more of the tax responsibilities onto commercial and residential properties. I am in the process of reviewing this incident with our contracted assessor, and the Village will be considering a change to our contracted assessment services due to several concerns and observations expressed throughout the 2022 calendar year.

While I am sorry for this confusion regarding your tax bill, I am happy to share the news you all either receive a refund or will pay less in property taxes. I encourage community members to reach out to me at 414-371-3051 or via email at if you have any questions or concerns. Village Treasurer Derrick Danner will also serve as a great resource if you have any questions (phone: 414-371-3046 or via email:
